Ever increasing popularity of the tree, is not so beneficial to the tree itself. There are many descendants of Newton’s apple tree, but the original one attracts the most visitors. Since then, Newton’s childhood home: the 17th century Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire, has become a tourist attraction. Well, not quite so, but he did discover universal gravitation, by observing an apple falling on the ground. The story goes, that young Isaac Newton was sitting under an apple tree and an apple fell on his head. Regardless of being science enthusiast or not, the story of the theory of gravity, is one of the most widely known. Becides being a physicist, he also was an astronomer, a mathematician and a theologist. His theory of universal gravitation and laws of motion were groundbreaking. With press releases, blogs and a strong social media presence, this was a fantastic opportunity for the sector to inspire and engage the public with Sir Issac Newton's story and how his curiosity was the key to his revolutionary theories that shaped modern scientific thinking.Born on Christmas day prematurely in 1642, Isaac Newton was not expected to live, but he became a revolutionary scientist. The day, backed by UNESCO, recognises the huge contribution that Science Centres and Museums make every day, on every continent, in inspiring young people and families with science.įor the 2017 International Science Centre and Science Museum Day ASDC celebrated the one year anniversary of our Newton apple tree's alongside the Science Centres and Museums who took part. On the 10th of November 2016, Newton's Apple Seed growers joined forces to celebrate International Science Centre and Science Museum Day.
